INTRODUCTION ABOUT MONTEK 10MG TABLET

MONTEK 10MG TABLET contains Montelukast which belongs to the group of medicines called Leukotriene Receptor Antagonists. It is used to manage the signs and symptoms of asthma and seasonal allergic rhinitis in adults and in adolescents (aged 15 years or older). It can also be used to manage bronchospasm (narrowing of airways) triggered due to exercise.

Asthma is a long-term respiratory disease in which your airways become inflamed, swollen and narrowed. It also causes excessive mucous secretion in the airways which makes it difficult for the air to pass through, leading to unpleasant symptoms like wheezing, difficulty in breathing, chest pain and/or cough.

Seasonal allergic rhinitis (also known as hay fever) is an allergic condition triggered due to exposure of oneself towards various allergens (such as pollens, dusts, mould or flakes of skin from certain animals). It is often characterized by inflammation of the inner lining of nose accompanied by nasal congestion, repeated sneezing and/or a red, watery or itchy eyes.

MONTEK 10MG TABLET can only manage you from getting an asthmatic attack. It will not stop an asthma attack that has been started already. Therefore, always carry an inhaled rescue medicine with you to subside the symptoms.

Take MONTEK 10MG TABLET for the duration prescribed by your doctor to achieve better control over the symptoms. Before taking MONTEK 10MG TABLET inform your doctor if you are allergic to montelukast or have any pre-existing disease condition.

You must also inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before taking MONTEK 10MG TABLET as a precaution. The most common side effects of taking MONTEK 10MG TABLET are stomach pain, headache, upper respiratory tract infections, skin rash, nausea and vomiting. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect troubles you.

USES OF MONTEK 10MG TABLET

It is used in adults and in adolescents (aged 15 years or older) to manage the symptoms of:

• Chronic asthma
• Seasonal allergic rhinitis (runny nose, sneezing, itching of the eyes and/or nose)
• Exercise induced bronchospasm (narrowing of airways)

HOW MONTEK 10MG TABLET WORKS

MONTEK 10MG TABLET effectively controls the symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis, where montelukast acts by blocking the release of certain chemicals (leukotrienes) in the respiratory tract that triggers the allergic and inflammatory response. It also manages the narrowing of the airway tract which makes breathing easier.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take MONTEK 10MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. It can be taken with or without meals.

Your doctor will decide the correct dose, duration of therapy and number of doses per day depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

Do not stop taking MONTEK 10MG TABLET once your symptoms subside without consulting your doctor.

Nausea and Vomiting:

Take MONTEK 10MG TABLET with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if your symptom worsens.

Headache:

Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.

Dizziness:

Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug - Drug interactions:

Before taking MONTEK 10MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:

• medicines used to manage fits (Ex. phenobarbital, phenytoin)
• rifampicin (a medicine used to manage tuberculosis)
• medicines used to relieve fever, pain and inflammation (Ex. aspirin, ibuprofen)
• gemfibrozil (a medicine used to control blood cholesterol levels)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally took more MONTEK 10MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose might include stomach pain, sleepiness, thirst, headache, vomiting and hyperactivity.
