INTRODUCTION ABOUT LIBRATE 10MG TABLET
LIBRATE 10MG TABLET contains chlordiazepoxide, which belongs to the group of medicines known as benzodiazepine anxiolytics. It is used for the short-term management of severe anxiety. It is also used for the management of muscle spasms of varied causes, for the management of symptoms of sudden alcohol withdrawal and the management of insomnia associated with anxiety (restless, uneasy, feeling of fear, etc.). It can also be used as an adjunct for stress reduction in insomnia, pre-and post-operative apprehension, tension headache, premenstrual tension and stress reduction in functional gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, gynaecological and dermatological disorders.
LIBRATE 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients suffering from myasthenia gravis (severe muscle weakness), patients suffering from acute narrow-angle glaucoma (type of eye disease due to damage to the optic nerve), patients suffering from severe liver disease, patients suffering from severe respiratory disease such as sleep apnoea syndrome (severe breathing difficulty while sleeping), in patients suffering from spinal or cerebral ataxia (loss of control over body movements) and in patients suffering from mental disorders such as personality disorder, depression, hallucinations and delusions, etc.
LIBRATE 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients suffering from psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia (a mental illness in which a person’s ability to think, feel and behave is altered), depression, delirium, senile dementia, mania, in patients who have a history of alcohol or drug abuse, in patients who are suffering from kidney problems and liver problems, in patients suffering from blood disorders such as blood dyscrasias, if you have or ever had suicidal thoughts and in patients who have or have had seizures/fits.
LIBRATE 10MG TABLET should not be used in pregnant women unless necessary. LIBRATE 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use by breastfeeding women as it may pass through breast milk. LIBRATE 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients because it may cause fall injuries. LIBRATE 10MG TABLET should not be used by children under the age of 18.
Some patients may experience suicidal thoughts after taking LIBRATE 10MG TABLET. If you experience such thoughts, consult your doctor immediately. LIBRATE 10MG TABLET might cause some side effects in patients, such as drowsiness, light headiness, tiredness, dizziness, poor muscle coordination, speech disorder, confusion, ataxia, etc. Consult your doctor immediately if any of your symptoms worsen.

HOW LIBRATE 10MG TABLET WORKS
LIBRATE 10MG TABLET is a Benzodiazepine which works by binding to benzodiazepine receptors and enhancing the activity of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA (a chemical in the brain). It also suppresses the activity of certain neurons in particular parts of the brain which helps in the reduction of anxiety.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take LIBRATE 10MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Consume the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the exact dose and duration of management for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.

Stop taking LIBRATE 10MG TABLET and consult your doctor immediately in case you experience:
- severe allergic reaction leading to breathing difficulties and swelling of face, throat and mouth
- suicidal thoughts
- jaundice
- blood dyscrasias, symptoms include weakness, pale skin, bleeding problems, sore throat and frequent infections
Inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following behavioural changes:
- aggression
- confusion
- depression
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Headache and Dizziness:
Rest and relax. Drink plenty of water and electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if needed. Do not consume alcohol. Contact your doctor if in case your headache does not improve.

PREGNANCY
LIBRATE 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary as may have side effects on the unborn baby. Consult your doctor before taking it.
BREASTFEEDING
LIBRATE 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
LIBRATE 10MG TABLET causes drowsiness and affects the concentration of the individual. Do not drive or operate machines after taking LIBRATE 10MG TABLET.
ALCOHOL
Alcohol consumption is not recommended with the use of LIBRATE 10MG TABLET as it may have a sedative effect and cause drowsiness.
KIDNEY
LIBRATE 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients suffering from kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.
LIVER
LIBRATE 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients suffering from severe liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.
LIBRATE 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with mild to moderate liver problems. Consult your doctor before taking it.
ALLERGY
Do not take LIBRATE 10MG TABLET if you are allergic to Chlordiazepoxide, other benzodiazepines or other ingredients of the medicine.
LUNGS
LIBRATE 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients suffering from severe respiratory insufficiency and sleep apnoea syndrome. Consult your doctor before taking it.
OTHERS
LIBRATE 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients suffering from:
- narrow-angle glaucoma (type of eye problem due to damage to the optic nerve)
- myasthenia gravis (severe muscle weakness)
- spinal or cerebral ataxia (loss of control over body movements)
- mental disorders such as personality disorder, depression, hallucinations and delusions

INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking LIBRATE 10MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- levodopa (a medicine used for the management of Parkinson’s disease)
- theophylline (a medicine used for the management of breathing difficulties)
- sodium oxybate (a medicine used for the management of narcolepsy)
- NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as diclofenac, ibuprofen etc (medicines used for pain relief)
- anaesthetics (medicines used during surgeries)
- ritonavir (a medicine used to manage HIV)
- anti-epileptics such as phenytoin, phenobarbitone etc (a medicine used for the management of seizures)
- antidepressants such as impramine and diazepam (a medicine used for the management of depression)
- rifampicin (a medicine used for the management of tuberculosis)
- nitrates, hydralazine, minoxidil, sodium nitroprusside (a medicine used for vasodilation)
- chlorphenamine (a medicine used for the management of colds and allergies)
- baclofen (medicine used as muscle relaxant)
- warfarin (a medicine used for blood thinning)
- opioids such as morphine, codeine (strong painkillers)
- furosemide (a medicine used for maintaining salt and water levels in the body)
- digoxin (a medicine used to manage abnormal heart rhythms)
- medicines used in the management of high blood pressure
- nabilone (a medicine used for vomiting/ sickness)
- cisapride (a medicine used for managing constipation)
- contraceptives (medicines used for managing pregnancy)
- disulfiram (a medicine used for the management of alcoholism)
- erythromycin (a medicine used for the management of bacterial infection)
- cimetidine (a medicine used for the management of stomach ulcers and acidity)
- omeprazole (a medicine used for the management of acidity)
- medicines used for the management of anxiety such as diazepam
- medicines used for the management of sleep disorders
Overdosage:
In case you or anybody else accidentally takes too much of LIBRATE 10MG TABLET consult the doctor immediately. Symptoms of chronic and acute overdosage of LIBRATE 10MG TABLET are confusion, drowsiness and ataxia (loss of control over body movements). The function of cardiovascular and respiratory centres in the brain may also be altered.
