INTRODUCTION ABOUT KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET

KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET contains Ketorolac, which belongs to the group of medicines called Painkillers. It is used for short-term pain relief (5 or 7 days) of sudden moderate to severe pain associated with surgical procedures (such as general surgery, orthopaedic and dental surgery), Musculo-skeletal pain (such as severe joint pain, muscle pain), post-partum uterine cramping pain and other pain conditions when your doctor prescribes.

Take KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET only under medical supervision. It can be taken with or without food. Take this medicine only for the duration as advised by your physician. Usually, it is not taken more than 7 days without doctor consultation.

KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients taking other NSAIDs (Ex. aspirin) or those having advanced kidney, heart, cerebrovascular or gastrointestinal diseases or a tendency to bleed easily. Before taking KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have liver, lung or heart diseases, high blood pressure or inflammatory bowel diseases.

KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnancy (especially during the last 3 months) and in breastfeeding mothers. KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children (below 17 years of age). KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients above 65 years of age.

Avoid smoking and consumption of alcohol with KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET. The most common side effects of taking KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET include nausea, indigestion, stomach pain, diarrhoea, dizziness or drowsiness, headache or swelling. Consult your doctor immediately if the symptoms worsen or persist.

USES OF KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET

It is used for short-term pain relief (5 or 7 days) of sudden moderate to severe pain associated with:

  • Surgical procedures (such as general surgery, orthopaedic and dental surgery)
  • Musculo-skeletal pain (such as severe joint pain, muscle pain)
  • Post-partum uterine cramping pain
  • Other pain conditions when your doctor prescribes

HOW KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET WORKS

KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET contains Ketorolac which works by blocking enzymes called COX-1 and COX-2, which are involved in producing chemicals (prostaglandins) that cause pain and inflammation. By stopping these enzymes, ketorolac helps reduce pain, swelling, and inflammation in the body.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET as advised by your physician. It can be taken with or without food.

For Tablet, Capsule: Swallow KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

For Dispersible Tablet: Disperse KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET in the specified quantity of water as mentioned in the label. Consume the mixture immediately after reconstitution.

Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Continue to take KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET for the stipulated duration prescribed by your doctor to achieve better results.

SIDE EFFECTS OF KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET

COMMON

  • nausea, indigestion, stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation
  • dizziness, drowsiness, headache
  • swelling
  • sleepiness or lack of sleep
  • nervousness
  • fever

UNCOMMON

  • abnormal dreams, anxiety, dry mouth, hyperactivity, tingling and prickling sensation, increased sweating, euphoria, hallucinations
  • loss of appetite, gas, vomiting, inflamed and sore mouth, gastritis, sore throat
  • lack of energy, pain, back pain
  • vasodilatation, throbbing sensation, high blood pressure
  • migraine
  • muscle or joint pain
  • rash, hives
  • discomfort, pain or burning while peeing

RARE

  • worsening of inflammatory bowel disease like ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease, ulcerative stomatitis
  • blood disorders like agranulocytosis, hemolytic anemia, aplastic anemia, lymphadenopathy, pancytopenia (due to changes in the number of blood cells)
  • postoperative bleeding
  • increased blood sugar levels
  • high potassium levels (shortness of breath, chest pain, nausea, vomiting)
  • low sodium levels (whole body dizziness, fatigue, lethargy, weakness, thirst)
  • aseptic meningitis (brain and spinal cord membrane inflammation), psychosis, fits
  • bronchospasm (tightness of chest), pneumonia, respiratory depression
  • conjunctivitis (eye inflammation)

Stop taking KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • shortness of breath
  • swelling, rapid weight gain
  • skin rash
  • bleeding in stomach (bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood or vomit that may look like coffee grounds)
  • liver problems (nausea, stomach pain, itchiness, tiredness, flu-like symptoms, clay-coloured stools, dark urine, yellowing of the skin or eyes, loss of appetite)
  • anaemia (paleness of skin, light-headedness, fast heart rate, difficulty in concentrating, shortness of breath)
  • kidney problems (little or no urine production, difficulty or pain while urinating, swelling of legs, tiredness, shortness of breath)
  • heart attack or stroke (chest pain spreading to jaw or shoulder, slurred speech, sudden numbness or weakness on one side of the body, feeling short of breath)
  • allergic reaction (hives, difficulty in breathing, swelling of face or throat)
  • severe skin reaction (fever, burning eyes, sore throat, skin pain, purple or red skin rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling)
  • flank pain with or without haematuria, haemolytic uraemic syndrome (damage or inflammation of small blood vessels in kidneys)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Constipation

Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as vegetables, fresh fruits and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

Diarrhea

Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice for hydration. Do not consume any medicine on your own without asking your doctor. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

Dizziness Or Drowsiness

When you feel dizzy, lie or sit down immediately. Lie-down in a dark and quite place with eyes closed. Vehicle driving should be avoided if you experience frequent dizziness without warning. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

Dry Mouth

Dry mouth can be managed by chewing sugar-free gum or sucking on sugar-free hard candies to stimulate the flow of saliva. Sip water at regular intervals of time. Do not use mouthwashes that contain alcohol because they can be drying. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

Headache

Try to take rest in a quiet dark room. Don’t involve yourself in exertive activities. Apply a pain-relieving balm on your forehead. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

Nausea And Vomiting

Drink ice cold drinks. Try to avoid sugary snacks and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, drink slowly in between meals. Take KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

Stomach Pain

Try to rest and relax. Try to have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

Contraindicated

KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET is not recommended in women who are pregnant (especially during the last 3 months) or trying to get pregnant as it may harm the baby. Consult your doctor for advice.

BREASTFEEDING

Contraindicated

KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding mothers. Consult your doctor for advice.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Use with Caution

Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy, drowsy, tired or light-headed after taking KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET.

ALCOHOL

Consult your doctor

Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET because you would be more likely to develop stomach problems.

KIDNEY

Consult your doctor

KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney disease. KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with other kidney problems. Consult your doctor for advice.

LIVER

Use with Caution

KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with impaired liver function, history of liver disease or any biliary problem. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY

Contraindicated

Do not take KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET if you are allergic to Ketorolac tromethamine, aspirin or other similar medicines or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

LUNGS

Use with Caution

KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with a family history of asthma, nasal polyps, chronic sinusitis (long-term swelling of the sinus) or hives. Consult your doctor for advice.

HEART DISEASE

Consult your doctor

KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you had or are going to have a heart bypass surgery, have severe uncontrolled heart failure. KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients who have or had high blood pressure, angina, heart attack, congestive heart failure or atherosclerosis (thickening or hardening of your artery walls). Consult your doctor for advice.

USE IN PEDIATRICS

Contraindicated

KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children. The safety and effectiveness of KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET in children and adolescents (below 17 years of age) have not been established. Consult your child’s doctor for advice.

USE IN GERIATRICS

Use with Caution

KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients above 65 years of age. Your doctor may prescribe you lower dosages. Consult your doctor for advice.

OTHERS

KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

  • have or had peptic ulcer and gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation
  • have to undergo any major surgery
  • tend to bleed easily
  • have cerebrovascular bleeding
  • have incomplete haemostasis (blood clotting), high risk of bleeding
  • had an asthma attack, hives or other allergic reactions after taking aspirin or any other NSAIDs
  • are going to take it for pain, right before or after heart bypass surgery
  • smoke

Before taking KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET, inform your physician if you have:

  • high cholesterol
  • diabetes mellitus or are on a low sugar diet
  • poor circulation to your extremities
  • pancreatic problems

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  • Antidepressants (Ex. fluvoxamine, sertraline, trazodone, citalopram, fluoxetine, escitalopram, paroxetine, vilazodone)
  • lithium (used to manage mania)
  • Anti-psychotics (Ex. thiothixene, alprazolam)
  • Pain killers (Ex. ibuprofen, indomethacin, ketorolac, aspirin, celecoxib, diclofenac, meloxicam, naproxen)
  • methotrexate (medicine used in cancer management)
  • Anticoagulants (Ex. warfarin, heparin, clopidogrel)
  • Cardiac drugs (Ex. furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide, enalapril, lisinopril, perindopril, ramipril, candesartan, irbesartan, losartan, valsartan, digoxin)
  • Antiepileptics (Ex. phenytoin, carbamazepine)
  • prednisolone (used to manage autoimmune and inflammatory diseases)
  • cyclosporin (used to supress immunity)
  • morphine (used in extreme pain)
  • oxpentiphylline (used to manage blood flow problems in legs or arms)
  • probenecid (used to manage gout)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone accidentally use too much of KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital as it may increase the risk of side effects. Symptoms of KETOROL DT 10MG TABLET overdosage may include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting and upper abdomen pain, lethargy.
