INTRODUCTION ABOUT ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET
ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET contains Allopurinol which belongs to a group of medicines called Enzyme inhibitors. It is used to manage gout, kidney stones, enzyme disorders (Lesch-Nyhan Syndrome), and high levels of uric acid caused by certain cancer medications.
Gout is a form of arthritis due to high levels of uric acid in the body and this uric acid builds up in the joints and tendons as crystals causing severe pain, redness and tenderness in joints.
Before taking ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, high blood pressure or heart problems, thyroid, cancer or Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, gout attack, lactose or galactose intolerance and glucose-galactose malabsorption.
ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women and it is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it passes through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.
ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children below children under 15 years of age except in some types of cancer such as leukaemia and certain enzyme disorders such as Lesch-Nyhan syndrome. ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients above 65years of age. Consult your doctor before taking it.
The most common side effects of taking ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET are skin rash and increased levels of thyroid stimulation hormone in blood. Consult with your doctor if any of these worsens or doesn’t improve.

HOW ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET WORKS
ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET works by stopping the enzyme (xanthine oxidase) which is responsible for production of uric acid. Thus lowering the levels of uric acid in blood and urine and decreases the incidence of gout symptoms.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicines with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET
COMMON
- skin rash
- increased thyroid-stimulating hormone levels in the blood.
UNCOMMON
- nausea, vomiting
- diarrhoea
- abdominal pain
- abnormal liver tests
RARE
- liver problems (liver inflammation, jaundice)
Stop taking ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- allergic reaction symptoms such as flaking skin, boils or sore lips and mouth, sudden wheeziness, fluttering or tightness in the chest and collapse
- serious hypersensitivity reactions characterised by fever, joint pain, abnormalities in blood, bleeding in the lips, mouth, eyes, nose or genitals, ulcers of the mouth, throat, nose, genitals, conjunctivitis (red and swollen eyes), widespread blisters or peeling
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Itchy rash:
Avoid hot showers because hot water can irritate the skin. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors. Regularly use moisturizer to soothe and hydrate the affected area. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.
Nausea or vomiting:
Try to take this medicine with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep you hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhea. Contact your doctor if the symptom did not improve.
Stomach pain:
Rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller meals. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. Do not self-manage and contact your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

PREGNANCY
ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnant women. Consult with your doctor before taking.
BREASTFEEDING
ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it passes through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel drowsy, giddy or have problems with co-ordination after taking ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET.
KIDNEY
ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking.
LIVER
ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Consult your doctor before taking.
ALLERGY
Do not take ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET if you are allergic to Allopurinol or any other ingredients of this medicine.
HEART DISEASE
ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with heart problems. Consult your doctor before taking.
OTHERS
Before taking ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET inform your doctor if you have:
- Lesch-Nyhan syndrome
- thyroid problems
- high blood pressure
- an acute attack of gout
- cancer (especially leukaemia)
- intolerance to some sugars
Use in paediatrics:
ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET is not recommended in children below 15 years of age except in some types of cancer (leukaemia) and certain enzyme disorders such as Lesch-Nyhan syndrome. Consult with your child’s doctor before giving it to your child.
Use in geriatrics:
ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years). Consult your doctor before taking.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug - Drug interactions:
Before taking ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- aspirin (medicine used to manage heart diseases, pain)
- theophylline (medicine used for asthma and breathing disorders)
- medicines used to manage epilepsy (Ex. phenytoin, carbamazepine).
- vidarabine (used to manage herpes simplex or chicken pox)
- medicines used to manage bacterial infections (Ex. ampicillin and amoxicillin)
- didanosine (used to manage HIV infection)
- medicines used to manage diabetes (Ex. chlorpropamide and tolbutamide)
- cytostatics (medicines stop the cell growth in cancer). Ex. cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, bleomycin, procarbazine, alkyl halogenides
- azathioprine (medicines used for rheumatoid arthritis and after organ transplants)
- medicines used to manage high blood pressure, heart failure (Ex. captopril)
- medicines used to thin the blood (Ex. dicoumarol, phenprocoumon, and warfarin)
- medicines used to reduce uric acid levels, gout (Ex. probenecid, salicylate).
- aluminium hydroxide (medicines used to manage acidity)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of ZYLORIC 300MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and dizziness.
