INTRODUCTION ABOUT VORTIDIF 10 TABLET
VORTIDIF 10 TABLET contains Vortioxetine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antidepressants. It is used to manage depression (major depressive episodes) in adults. Depression is a mood disorder characterized by persistent feeling of sadness, loss of interest, feeling guilty or worthless, attention impairment, lack of energy, suicidal thoughts and slow or abnormal physical movements.
Before taking VORTIDIF 10 TABLET inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems. You must also inform your doctor if you currently have or have a previous history of fits (epilepsy), glaucoma, suicidal thoughts, mania or bleeding problems as a precaution.
VORTIDIF 10 TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women unless considered necessary by the physician. It is also not suitable for use in children aged below 18 years.
The most common side effects of taking VORTIDIF 10 TABLET are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, dizziness, itching of the whole body, abnormal dreams (nightmares) and increased sweating. These side effects are usually temporary and will resolve on its own within 2 weeks of therapy. However, consult your doctor if they worsen.
You must also inform your doctor if you experience worsening of depression or suicidal thoughts or behaviour after taking VORTIDIF 10 TABLET.

HOW VORTIDIF 10 TABLET WORKS
VORTIDIF 10 TABLET is an antidepressant medication. It acts by increasing the levels of certain chemical messengers (such as serotonin) in the brain that can stabilize mood and mental health. As a result, it improves your mood and energy and reduce the signs of depression.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take VORTIDIF 10 TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not cursh or chew the medicine. It can be taken with or without food.
Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Do not stop taking VORTIDIF 10 TABLET without consulting your doctor as it may make your symptoms re-appear once again.
SIDE EFFECTS OF VORTIDIF 10 TABLET
COMMON
- nausea, vomiting
- diarrhoea, constipation
- dizziness
- itching of the whole body
- abnormal dreams (nightmares)
- increased sweating
UNCOMMON
- flushing
- night sweats
RARE
- enlarged pupils
Stop taking VORTIDIF 10 TABLET and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of serotonin syndrome (such as feeling agitated, hallucinations, confusion, loss of consciousness, fast heartbeat, feeling dizzy, increased sweating, flushing, tremors, stiff muscles or muscle twitching, loss of coordination, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or seizures)
- signs of allergic reactions (such as skin rash, swelling of the hands, face, tongue, neck or throat, increased fluid in tissues, fast heart rate, difficulty in breathing)
- unexplained bleeding
- feeling anxious, aggressive, irritated or angry
- worsening of depression, suicidal thoughts or behavior
- fits (seizures)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea or vomiting:
Take this medicine with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Contact your doctor if nausea worsens.
Constipation:
Eat plenty of fibre rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise regularly. Contact your doctor if constipation persists.
Diarrhoea:
Drink fluids, such as water or fruit juice in enough quantity to keep yourself hydrated. Don’t take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhoea without talking to your doctor. Contact your doctor if diarrhoea worsen.
Dizziness:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operate machinery if you feel dizzy. Avoid consumption of alcohol as it could aggravate your dizziness. Contact your doctor if dizziness worsens.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
VORTIDIF 10 TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
BREASTFEEDING
VORTIDIF 10 TABLET may pass through breast milk and so it is generally not recommended for use in breast feeding women. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
VORTIDIF 10 TABLET does not impair your ability to drive or handle heavy tools. However, it may cause dizziness in some individuals. Therefore, do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines if you experience dizziness after taking VORTIDIF 10 TABLET as a precaution.
ALCOHOL
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking VORTIDIF 10 TABLET as it may increase the risk of side effects.
KIDNEY
VORTIDIF 10 TABLET should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney diseases. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
LIVER
VORTIDIF 10 TABLET should be used with caution in patients with severe liver diseases (such as liver cirrhosis). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
ALLERGY
Do not take VORTIDIF 10 TABLET if you are allergic to Vortioxetine.
OTHERS
Before taking VORTIDIF 10 TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- currently have or have a previous history of fits (or seizures)
- have ever had mania (mood disorder that causes high levels of excitement)
- have increased tendency to bleed or bruise easily
- have low sodium levels in the blood
- currently have or have a previous history of glaucoma
- are going to have a urine test
- have a history of bleeding problems
- have a previous history of suicidal thoughts
Use in pediatrics:
VORTIDIF 10 TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) due to lack of safety data. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Use in Geriatrics:
VORTIDIF 10 TABLET should be used with caution in elderly people (aged 65 years or above). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-drug interactions:
Before taking VORTIDIF 10 TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:
- medicines used to manage pain (such as tramadol, fentanyl, nefopam, morphine or morphine related substances like codeine, dihydrocodeine, buprenorphine)
- medicines used to manage migraine headache (Ex. sumatriptan)
- other medicines used to manage depression (Ex. phenelzine, iproniazid, isocarboxazid, nialamide, tranylcypromine, moclobemide, fluoxetine, paroxetine, amitriptyline, imipramine etc.)
- medicines used to manage parkinsonism (Ex. selegiline, rasagiline)
- linezolid (an antibiotic used to manage bacterial infections)
- lithium (a medicine used to manage depression and mental disorders)
- tryptophan (an amino acid used to induce sleep)
- rifampicin (a medicine used to manage tuberculosis)
- medicines used to manage epilepsy (Ex. carbamazepine, phenytoin)
- medicines used to manage blood clots (Ex. warfarin, dipyridamole, phenprocoumon, aspirin)
- mefloquine (a medicine used to manage malaria)
- bupropion (a medicine used to quit smoking)
- St. John’s wort (an herbal medicine used to manage depression)
- quinidine (a medicine used to manage irregular heartbeat)
- medicines used to manage psychiatric disorders (Ex. haloperidol, chlorpromazine, chlorprothixene)
Over dosage:
If you accidentally took more VORTIDIF 10 TABLET than the prescribed dose, contact your doctor or go to the nearest hospital immediately. Symptoms of overdosage might include nausea, dizziness, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, flushing, feeling sleepy or drowsy and itching of the whole body.
