Inform your physician if you are taking any of the following medicine before taking TOPIROL 50MG TABLET:

1. Oral Contraceptives (e.g., birth control pills):

Interaction: Topiramate may increase the metabolism of contraceptives, decreasing their blood levels.

Effect: Topiramate can reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, potentially leading to contraceptive failure and an increased risk of pregnancy.

2. Anticonvulsant Medications [e.g., Valproate (Valproic Acid)]:

Interaction: It can alter ammonia metabolism, leading to a dangerous accumulation in the blood.

Effect: Concurrent use of Topiramate and Valproate can increase the risk of hyperammonemia (elevated ammonia levels in the blood), which can lead to encephalopathy (brain dysfunction).

3. Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitors (e.g., Acetazolamide, Methazolamide):

Interaction: It can decrease bicarbonate levels in the blood, promoting acidosis.

Effect: Topiramate with other carbonic anhydrase inhibitors may increase the risk of metabolic acidosis, which is a condition where the body becomes too acidic.

Interaction: It can affect serotonin levels in the brain, and their combination can lead to an excessive serotonin response.

Effect: Topiramate with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) can increase the risk of serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition.
