INTRODUCTION ABOUT PAN 40MG TABLET
PAN 40MG TABLET is used to manage peptic ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and reflux esophagitis and its associated symptoms such as acidity, heartburn, acid reflux and pain in swallowing. It contains Pantoprazole which belongs to the group of medicines called Proton pump inhibitors. PAN 40MG TABLET can also be used to manage peptic ulcer caused due to long-term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as aspirin, ibuprofen).
Take PAN 40MG TABLET at least 1 hour before meals to achieve maximum benefits. During management with PAN 40MG TABLET your doctor will closely monitor kidney functions, liver functions and blood magnesium levels to avoid the risk of unwanted side effects. Before taking inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney or heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have weak bones or any previous history of bleeding in the gut.
Consult your doctor before taking PAN 40MG TABLET if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The most common side effects are dryness of mouth, constipation and flatulence. You must also inform your doctor immediately if you experience severe tiredness with abnormal muscle movements, dizziness, confusion, disorientation and irregular heartbeat, as it could be a sign of low magnesium levels in blood.
USES OF PAN 40MG TABLET
It is used to manage:
- Peptic ulcer and manages its recurrence
- Gastrointestinal Reflux disease (GERD)
- Reflux esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus)
- Acidity, Heartburn, Pain in swallowing
HOW PAN 40MG TABLET WORKS
PAN 40MG TABLET contains Pantoprazole which helps to reduce gastric acid secretion by the blocking the actions of a protein membrane called H+K+Atpase (proton pump) across the stomach lining. As a result, it manages the worsening of ulcers, heals the existing ulcers and esophageal lesions and provides relief from the unpleasant symptoms of GI tract (such as acidity, heartburn and acid reflux).
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
- Take PAN 40MG TABLET 30 minutes to 1 hour before meals or as advised by your physician
- Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine
- Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition
- Do not stop taking PAN 40MG TABLET unless your doctor advice you to stop
SIDE EFFECTS OF PAN 40MG TABLET
Common side effects of PAN 40MG TABLET:
- benign polyps in the stomach
- headache
- dizziness, drowsiness
- feeling weak
- nausea or vomiting
- diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, flatulence
- dry mouth
Stop taking PAN 40MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- severe allergic reactions (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the lips, face or body and difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
- signs of liver problems (yellowing of the skin and eyes, dark urine and tiredness)
- severe skin reactions (such as redness, blistering, peeling of skin and bleeding in the lips, eyes, mouth, nose and genitals with fever)
- signs of kidney problem (such as lower back pain, painful urination)
- signs of low magnesium levels in blood (such as tiredness, abnormal muscle movements, dizziness, confusion, disorientation, irregular heartbeat)
- sudden weight loss, looking pale and weak (anemia)
- signs of bleeding in the gut (such as bloody vomits/stools)
- uncontrollable body movements (including eye and tongue), twisted neck and abnormal body posture
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
Monitoring requiredPAN 40MG TABLET should be used in pregnant women only if it is considered necessary by the physician.
BREASTFEEDING
Monitoring requiredPAN 40MG TABLET may pass through breast milk. Therefore, it should be used in breastfeeding women only if it is considered necessary by the physician.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Use with CautionPAN 40MG TABLET does not affect your ability in driving or handling heavy tools or machines.
ALCOHOL
Consult your doctorAvoid consumption of alcohol while taking PAN 40MG TABLET, as it could aggravate your existing condition.
KIDNEY
Use with CautionPAN 40MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems.
LIVER
Use with CautionPAN 40MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems.
ALLERGY
ContraindicatedDo not take PAN 40MG TABLET if you are allergic to Pantoprazole or any other ingredients of this medicine.
USE IN PEDIATRICS
ContraindicatedPAN 40MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents as it has not been proven to work in children below 12 years of age.
USE IN GERIATRICS
Use with CautionPAN 40MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above).
OTHERS
Before taking PAN 40MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- have osteoporosis
- have a history of bleeding in the gut
- have vitamin B12 deficiency (sore tongue, mouth ulcers, pale skin)
- are going to test Chromogranin A level
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking PAN 40MG TABLET inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:
- Antifungal (Ex. ketoconazole, itraconazole and Posaconazole)
- Anti-cancer agents (Ex. erlotinib)
- Anticoagulants (Ex. warfarin and phenprocoumon)
- Antimetabolites (Ex. methotrexate)
- Anti-viral agents (Ex. atazanavir)
- Antidepressants (Ex. fluvoxamine)
- Antibiotics (Ex. rifampicin)
- Herbal medicine (Ex. St. John’s wort)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally took more PAN 40MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
