INTRODUCTION ABOUT NATRILIX SR TABLET

NATRILIX SR TABLET contains Indapamide which belongs to the group of medicines called Thiazide like diuretics. It is used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension). It can also be used alone or in combination with other medicines to manage high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults.

Hypertension is a condition in which the force of the blood against the blood vessel wall is too high, resulting in early morning headaches, nosebleeds, irregular heartbeat, changes in vision, and buzzing in the ears.

Your doctor may advise to have a test to check how well your parathyroid gland is working and blood tests to check for low sodium or potassium levels or high calcium levels before taking NATRILIX SR TABLET.

NATRILIX SR TABLET should be avoided in patients with severe liver disease or conditions like hepatic encephalopathy (liver problems affect your brain and central nervous system), severe kidney disease and low level of potassium in blood.

Before taking NATRILIX SR TABLET, inform your doctor if you have heart rhythm problems, diabetes, gout, muscle disorders, eye pain or decrease in vision due to choroidal effusion (fluid collection in the vascular layer of the eye) or earlier penicillin or sulphonamide allergy and are an athlete.

NATRILIX SR TABLET is not recommended among pregnant and breastfeeding women. NATRILIX SR TABLET is generally not recommended for use in children and need to be used with caution among elderly patients with impaired kidney function.

The most common side effect of taking NATRILIX SR TABLET is skin rashes. Contact your doctor if the side effects gets worsen.

USES OF NATRILIX SR TABLET

  • Used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension)

HOW NATRILIX SR TABLET WORKS

NATRILIX SR TABLET lowers blood pressure by removing the extra water and salt from the body through acting on kidney. It also widens the blood vessel and makes the blood flow easy through blood vessels. This combined effect lowers blood pressure more effectively.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take NATRILIX SR TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow NATRILIX SR TABLET with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew. Your doctor will determine the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF NATRILIX SR TABLET

COMMON

  • skin rash
  • allergic reactions in the form of skin rashes (especially patients who are more prone to allergic and asthmatic reactions)
  • signs of low potassium in blood (constipation, skipped heartbeat feeling, muscle weakness or spasms)

UNCOMMON

  • vomiting
  • red pinpoints on skin (purpura)
  • signs of low sodium in blood (headache, confusion, irritability, muscle weakness or cramps)
  • impotence

RARE

  • tiredness
  • headache
  • paraesthesia (burning, prickling, numbness, itching and painful sensation)
  • vertigo
  • nausea or constipation, dry mouth
  • signs of low magnesium and chlorine in the blood (numbness, tingling sensation with muscle cramps)

Stop taking NATRILIX SR TABLET and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • angioedema and/or urticaria signs (swelling of the skin of extremities or face, swelling of the lips or tongue, swelling of the mucous membranes of the throat or airways resulting in breathing or swallowing difficulty)
  • severe skins reactions like stevens-johnson syndrome (intense skin rash, reddening of the skin over the whole body, severe itching, blistering, peeling and swelling of the skin, inflammation of mucous membranes)
  • irregular heartbeat
  • severe abdominal and back pain accompanied with feeling sick due to inflamed pancreas
  • inflammation of the brain caused by liver illness (hepatic encephalopathy)
  • inflammation of the liver (hepatitis)
  • abnormal muscle breakdown causes muscle weakness, cramps, tenderness or pain and particularly while having a high temperature

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Skin rash:

Just tap the skin dry after a bath or shower. Don't scratch the affected skin. Leave the rash open and avoid using harsh soaps, lotions and other creams to soothe the irritated skin. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor immediately.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

NATRILIX SR TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

BREASTFEEDING

NATRILIX SR TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy or tired after taking NATRILIX SR TABLET.

ALCOHOL

Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking NATRILIX SR TABLET because it might make you dizzier.

KIDNEY

NATRILIX SR TABLET is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease. It should be used with caution in patients with mild to moderate kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

LIVER

NATRILIX SR TABLET is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease or hepatic encephalopathy (liver problems affect your brain and central nervous system). It should be used with caution in patients with mild to moderate liver problems. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

ALLERGY

Do not take NATRILIX SR TABLET if you are allergic to Indapamide or any other ingredients of this medicine.

HEART DISEASE

NATRILIX SR TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with heart rhythm problems. Consult your doctor before this medicine.

OTHERS

NATRILIX SR TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

  • have hypokalaemia (low levels of potassium in blood)

Before taking NATRILIX SR TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

  • experience a decrease in vision or eye pain due to choroidal effusion (fluid collection in the vascular layer of the eye)
  • have muscle disorders  
  • have diabetes
  • have gout
  • have or had photosensitivity reactions
  • are an athlete  

Use in pediatrics:

NATRILIX SR TABLET is generally not recommended for use in children. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Use in geriatrics:

NATRILIX SR TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients, especially in those with impaired kidney function. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking NATRILIX SR TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • medicines for heart rhythm problems (Ex. quinidine, hydroquinidine, disopyramide, amiodarone, sotalol, ibutilide, dofetilide or digitalis)
  • bepridil (used in the management of angina pectoris, a condition that causes chest pain)
  • stimulant laxatives (medicines used in the management of constipation Ex. bisacodyl, senna, sodium picosulfate)
  • medicines used to manage mental disorders such as depression, anxiety or schizophrenia (such as tricyclic antidepressants, antipsychotic drugs, neuroleptics Ex. amisulpride, sulpride, sultopride, tiapride, haloperidol, lithium and droperidol)
  • sparfloxacin, moxifloxacin, erythromycin by injection (medicines used in the management of bacterial infections)
  • vincamine by injection (medicine used to manage symptomatic cognitive disorders in elderly including memory loss)
  • pentamidine (medicine used in management of certain types of pneumonia)
  • halofantrine (medicine used in the management of parasitic infection such as malaria)
  • mizolastine (medicine used in the management of allergic reactions, such as hay fever)
  • medicines used to relieve pain (such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) Ex. Ibuprofen or high doses of acetylsalicylic acid)
  • medicine used to manage high blood pressure and heart failure (such as angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors)
  • amphotericin B by (medicines used to manage fungal infections)
  • oral corticosteroids used to manage various conditions including severe asthma and rheumatoid arthritis (Ex. prednisone, prednisolone, methylprednisolone, dexamethasone)
  • allopurinol (medicine used in the management of gout)
  • baclofen (used to manage muscle stiffness occurring in diseases such as multiple sclerosis)
  • potassium-sparing diuretics (amiloride, spironolactone, triamterene)
  • metformin (used in diabetes management)
  • iodinated contrast media (used as dye in tests involving X-rays)
  • calcium supplements (manageing and managing weak and easily broken bones)
  • medicines used to suppress the immune system (Ex. cyclosporin, tacrolimus)
  • tetracosactide (medicine used in the management of Crohn’s disease)
  • cisapride (medicine used to manage reduced movement of the gullet and stomach)
  • diphemanil (used in the management of gastro-intestinal problems such as ulcers, too much acid, overactive digestive system)
  • methadone (medicine used in the management of drug addiction)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of NATRILIX SR TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are nausea or vomiting, low blood pressure, cramps, dizziness, drowsiness, confusion and changes in the amount of urine produced by the kidneys due to severe dehydration.
