INTRODUCTION ABOUT MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE

MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE contains Minocycline, which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage certain forms of bacterial infections that affect the ears, eyes, throat, nose, and respiratory system (chest infections), gonorrhoea or pelvic, skin infections (acne), urinary tract infections and prostate infections. It also helps in the management of meningitis carriers. It is also used in the management of infections before and after an operation.

Before taking MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you have or ever had liver or kidney problems. Avoid consumption of alcohol, milk or milk products while taking MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE, as it may lead to unwanted side effects.

MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE should be used with caution among women who are pregnant or breastfeeding as it can affect the development of the unborn baby. MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE should be used with caution by adults and adolescents but not recommended for use under the age of 12 years. The most common side effects of taking MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE are dizziness and fever. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

USES OF MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE

  • Manage varied types of infections, such as bacterial infections that affect ears, eyes, throat, nose and respiratory system (chest infections), gonorrhoea or pelvic, skin infections (acne), urinary tract infections and prostate infections
  • Manage meningitis carriers
  • Prevention of infection before and after an operation

HOW MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE WORKS

MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE has properties of immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects. It can work by any of the following mechanism such as inhibitory effect on activities of enzymes such as MMPs or iNOS; reduction in protein tyrosine nitration because of scavenging properties; inhibition of activation of caspase-1 and caspase 3; enhancement of Bcl-2-derived effects which protects the cells against apoptosis; inhibition of the activity of PARP-1; reduction in the amount of p38 MAPK phosphorylation. All these activities of minocycline help in fighting against various bacterial infections.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew. You can take MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE while sitting down or standing.

Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE

COMMON

  • dizziness

UNCOMMON

  • fever

RARE

  • vertigo (spinning sensation)
  • tinnitus (ringing in ears) and other hearing problems
  • loss of appetite
  • headache
  • diarrhoea
  • feeling or being sick
  • hair loss
  • abnormal and unexplained bruising and bleeding for a longer period. This might indicate low platelet levels in the blood
  • discolouration of teeth
  • cough
  • reduced sense of touch
  • feeling of pins and needles in the hands or feet
  • muscle and joint pain
  • skin problems such as itching, skin rashes, nettle rashes, the appearance of the same skin reaction in the same area after taking medicine, and the occurrence of red round lumps under the skin below the knee
  • redness, pain, or tenderness, swelling around a vein (vasculitis)
  • increased levels of liver enzymes or urea observed in blood test
  • increase in a specific type of WBCs seen in blood test

Stop taking MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • severe headaches
  • eye problems such as blurred or double vision, loss of vision
  • urine problems such as little or no urine production, discomfort, or pain during the passing of urine, and the production of dark or cloudy urine with lower back pain. These are indications of serious kidney problems
  • skin problems such as the occurrence of purple painful lumps on the skin (erythema nodosum), patches of dark skin colour, burning, tingling or redness of the skin after exposure to direct or artificial sunlight
  • inflammation is seen in various parts such as the liver, blood vessels, tongue, vagina or mouth, and intestines which causes severe nausea and vomiting, stomach cramps or diarrhoea and itching of the anus. These are indicative of the growth of tetracycline-resistance bacteria
  • recurrent and frequent infections causing fever, chest infections, severe chills, or mouth ulcers. These are signs of low WBCs levels in the blood
  • dark urine, pale stools, loss of appetite, yellowing of skin or whites of eyes, and stomach pain. These are indications of serious liver problems.
  • fatigue, chest pain or pressure and shortness of breath during exercise are signs of inflamed heart muscles (myocarditis)
  • sudden sharp chest pain which aggravates by deep breathing or coughing. These are signs of inflammation of the membrane surrounding the heart (pericarditis)
  • muscle pain
  • inflammation, pain, swelling or stiffness of joints with fever
  • allergic reaction is seen as red itchy swollen skin, severe skin rashes, and swelling seen on the face, mouth, lips, tongue, or throat which results in breathing difficulties
  • tiredness, weakness, or pale skin
  • breathing problems such as wheezing, shortness of breath at rest, coughing with chest tightness or worsening of asthma
  • stomach cramps, watery diarrhoea might be with blood, loss of appetite, and feeling sick (nausea or being sick). This may be a sign of pancreas inflammation
  • severe skin reactions, blistering of skin, mouth, genitals, and eyes, peeling, or flaking of skin
  • hair loss, weight loss, fever, rash (especially on the face), generalized feeling of being unwell and pain in joints. These are signs of Systemic Lupus Erythematous
  • fits
  • changes in the level of blood cells (drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms – DRESS)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Vomiting:

Take MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE with or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil-rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if the symptom worsens.

Dizziness:

If your feel dizzy, lie down, close your eyes and relax. Once you start feeling better, get up slowly and not with a jerk. Sit like that for 5-10 minutes and then you can continue working. Consult your doctor if the symptom worsens.

Headache:

Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if required. Do not consume too much alcohol. Consult your doctor if the symptom worsens.

Diarrhoea:

Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor. Consult your doctor if the symptom worsens.

Stomach pain:

Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and more frequent meals. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. Consult your doctor if the symptom worsens.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE is generally not recommended for use by pregnant women or women who are planning to conceive, as it can affect the development of the foetus. Consult your doctor before taking it.

BREASTFEEDING

MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizziness, spinning sensation while standing, headaches, eyesight problems, light-headedness, ringing in the ears or hearing problems after taking MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE.

ALCOHOL

Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE. The absorption of MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE can be affected by food, milk or milk products.

KIDNEY

MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE should be taken with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

LIVER

MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE should be taken with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

ALLERGY

Do not take MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE if you are allergic to minocycline.

OTHERS

MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you:

  • have systemic lupus erythematosus (an autoimmune disorder where the immune system of the body attacks its tissue causing damage and inflammation of various parts of the body)
  • have a need for dialysis management

Before taking MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you:

  • have myasthenia gravis (a condition which causes muscle weakening)

Use in paediatrics:

MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE is generally not recommended for under 12 years of age as it can affect growing bones and teeth and cause staining of teeth along with reduced enamel content in teeth. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Use in geriatrics:

MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking it.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • anticoagulants (used to thin blood) Ex. warfarin
  • antacids (used to manage indigestion) Ex. – magnesium hydroxide and calcium carbonate
  • hepatotoxic medicine (medicines that might affect the working of the liver)
  • sucralfate and bismuth salts (used to manage ulcers)
  • kaolin (used to manage diarrhoea)
  • quinapril (ACE inhibitor, used to manage high blood pressure)
  • antibiotic (a medicine used to manage infections) Ex. – penicillin
  • diuretics Ex. bumetanide and furosemide
  • retinoids (used to manage acne) Ex. isotretinoin or retinol
  • ergotamine (used to manage migraines)
  • ergometrine (used to induce labour or abortion)
  • medicines containing zinc salts, calcium, iron, magnesium, or aluminium

B. Drug–Food Interactions:

Avoid drinking alcohol while taking MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE as it may increase the risk of side effects. The absorption of MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE can be reduced by food, milk or milk products.

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of MINOZ OD 100MG CAPSULE, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are dizziness and feeling sick or nauseous.
