INTRODUCTION ABOUT MINIPRESS XL 5MG TABLET
MINIPRESS XL Tablet is mainly used to manage hypertension, heart failure and Raynaud’s disease. It is also used to manage prostatic hyperplasia in men. It contains Prazosin which belongs to the group of medicines called Alpha-Blockers.
Take MINIPRESS XL as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.
Before taking MINIPRESS XL, inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease. You should inform your doctor if you have ever had a fainting after passing urine. It may cause complications during eye surgeries such as cataract, therefore inform your doctor if you are undergoing any eye operations.
This medicine is not recommended in children under (12 years of age). MINIPRESS XL should be used with caution in pregnant women ,breast feeding mothers and elderly people.
Most common side effects of MINIPRESS XL are nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, fainting and dizziness etc.
USES OF MINIPRESS XL 5MG TABLET
It is used to manage:
- hypertension (high blood pressure)
- heart failure
- Raynaud’s disease (painful cold fingers)
- prostatic hyperplasia (mild enlargement of prostate gland) in men
HOW MINIPRESS XL 5MG TABLET WORKS
MINIPRESS XL reduces the blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels so that blood that pass easily without any obstruction. It reduces the chances of heart failure by acting on the main blood vessel, thus allowing the heart to pump blood productively. It manages Raynaud’s disease (painful cold fingers) by relaxing the blood vessels so that blood can reach the fingers and promotes circulation thereby manages fingers being cold and stiff. MINIPRESS XL also manages prostatic hyperplasia (mild enlargement of prostate gland) by relaxing the muscles of bladder and prostate gland and thus promotes easy passage of urine.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
- Take MINIPRESS XL as advised by your physician.
- Swallow the medicine with a glass of water.
- Do not crush or chew the medicine.
- Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF MINIPRESS XL 5MG TABLET
COMMON
- Fainting and dizziness especially on standing up
- Headache, drowsiness, or weakness
- Palpitations (irregular beating of heart)
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Lack of energy
- Depression or nervousness
- Constipation and diarrhoea
- Dry mouth
- Nasal stuffiness
- Blurred vision
- Shortness of breath or rash (signs of allergic reaction)
- Swelling of the feet, ankles or leg
- Increased frequency of urination
Stop taking MINIPRESS XL and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- Signs of allergic reactions (such as sudden wheeziness, difficulty in breathing, swelling of eyelids, face, lips, rash or itching which affects the whole body)

PREGNANCY
Monitoring requiredMINIPRESS XL should be used during pregnancy only if considered clearly necessary.
BREASTFEEDING
Use with CautionMINIPRESS XL is excreted in small amounts through breast milk, so it should be used with caution in breastfeeding mothers.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Use with CautionDo not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizziness, drowsiness, or weakness after taking MINIPRESS XL
ALCOHOL
Consult your doctorAvoid consumption of alcohol while taking MINIPRESS XL because it might cause dizziness, light-headedness, or fainting.
KIDNEY
Use with CautionMINIPRESS XL should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease.
LIVER
Use with CautionMINIPRESS XL should be used with caution in patients with liver disease.
ALLERGY
ContraindicatedDo not take MINIPRESS XL if you are allergic to Prazosin or other quinazolines such as doxazosin and terazosin.
HEART DISEASE
Use with CautionMINIPRESS XL should be used with caution in patients having heart failure due to another heart conditions such as heart attack or valvular heart disease. This heart conditions can gradually make this medicine ineffective and can lead to oedema (fluid retention) in legs and ankles.
USE IN PEDIATRICS
ContraindicatedMINIPRESS XL is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (under 12 years of age).
USE IN GERIATRICS
Use with CautionMINIPRESS XL should be used with caution in elderly patients usually initiating the management with the lowest possible dose.
OTHERS
Before taking MINIPRESS XL 5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- Have ever had a fainting after passing the urine
- Are undergoing an eye operation due to cataract (cloudiness of lens)
- Have prolonged erection of penis which lasts than 4 hours
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before taking MINIPRESS XL 5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- Calcium antagonists and ACE inhibitors (medicines used to manage high blood pressure) Ex. amlodipine, diltiazem, captopril enalapril
- Beta blockers (medicines used to manage angina (chest pain) Ex. atenolol, metoprolol
- Medicines used to manage erectile dysfunction (impotence) (Ex. sildenafil, tadalafil)
- Diuretics (medicines used to manage oedema) Ex. hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of MINIPRESS XL 5MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Overdosage may lead to decrease in blood pressure.
