- It is used as an adjunct in the management of diarrhea
Warning & Precautions
Talk to Doctor
Talk to your doctor if you:
- are allergic to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- have jaundice (skin and the whites of eyes are yellow)
- have diarrhoea
- are severely dehydrated or have an electrolyte imbalance
- have or had liver problems
- have or had ulcerative colitis
- history of dependence or addiction (alcohol, medicines or drugs)
- have bacterially-induced diarrhea
Pregnancy & Breast Feeding
- If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
Children & Adolescents
- This medicine is not recommended for children below the age of 4 years
Driving & Using Machines
- Do not drive or operate any machines while taking this medicine it may cause drowsiness or dizziness
Interactions
Tell your doctor, if you are taking,
- phenobarbital
- lorazepam, alprazolam (helps to sleep or reduce anxiety)
- tranquilizers (helps to calm you down)
- methocarbamol, cyclobenzaprine (used to manage muscle spasms and back pain)
- general anesthetics (used during surgery)
- olanzapine, clozapine, haloperidol (used to manage schizophrenia or other psychiatric illness)
- oxycodone, codeine, morphine, hydromorphone, meperidine, tramadol (used to manage pain)
- phenelzine sulphate, tranylcypromine sulphate, moclobemide or selegiline (used to manage depression or Parkinson’s disease)
Directions & For Use
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
- Swallow the medicine whole with a glass of water
If you take more LOMOTIL
- If you take more of this medicine, contact your doctor or go to a nearest hospital immediately
If you forget to take LOMOTIL
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is nearly time for your next dose
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose
If you stop taking LOMOTIL
- Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you to do so
Side Effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
- difficulty breathing or swallowing, fever, hives, itchy skin, rash, swelling of your tongue, throat or face
- bloating of the abdomen, bloody or heavy diarrhoea, fast heart rate, painful bowel movements, shock, stomach pain, tenderness of the abdomen
Common
- drowsiness or dizziness
- restlessness or confusion
- difficulty sleeping or sleepiness
- headache
- blurry vision
- feeling of pins and needles in your hands or feet or another body part
- depression
- loss of appetite or constipation
- dry skin
- difficulty urinating
