INTRODUCTION ABOUT IBSET TABLET

IBSET TABLET contains Ramosetron which belongs to the group of medicines called 5-HT3 (Serotonin) receptor antagonists. It is used to manage nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy and diarrheal IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) in men. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a gastrointestinal disorder that affects the intestine. Symptoms include stomach ache, diarrhoea or constipation, and bloating.

IBSET TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with ischemic colitis, constipation or constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome, large intestine carcinoma and inflammatory bowel disease, infectious enteritis or history of abdominal surgery.

IBSET TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnant and breast-feeding women and in children and adolescents (less than 18 years of age). It should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above).

The most common side effects of taking IBSET TABLET is constipation. Consult your doctor immediately if the symptom or side effect gets worse.

USES OF IBSET TABLET

Manage:

  • diarrheal irritable bowel syndrome in men
  • nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy

HOW IBSET TABLET WORKS

IBSET TABLET effectively manages nausea and vomiting by blocking the serotonin 5-HT3 receptor present in the gastrointestinal mucosa. It also manages irritable bowel syndrome by inhibiting the 5-HT3 receptor present in the myenteric plexus (which regulates bowel's movement).

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take IBSET TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Depending on your age, body weight, and medical condition, your doctor will determine the appropriate dose and duration of the management for you.

SIDE EFFECTS OF IBSET TABLET

COMMON

  • constipation

RARE

Stop taking IBSET TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience this side effect:

  • symptoms of ischemic colitis (such as abdominal pain and bloody stool)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Constipation

Eat fibre rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals. Drink more water and exercise regularly. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

PREGNANCY

IBSET TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

BREASTFEEDING

Contraindicated

IBSET TABLET is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it is not known whether it passes through breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.

ALLERGY

Contraindicated

Do not take IBSET TABLET if you are allergic to Ramosetron or any other ingredients of this medicine.

USE IN PEDIATRICS

Contraindicated

IBSET TABLET is generally not recommended for use in children and adolescents (under 18 years of age), due to lack of safety and effectiveness for them. Consult child’s doctor for advice.

USE IN GERIATRICS

Use with Caution

IBSET TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). Consult your doctor before taking it.  

OTHERS

IBSET TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:

  • ischemic colitis
  • constipation
  • large intestine carcinoma
  • constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome
  • inflammatory bowel disease
  • infectious enteritis  
  • history of abdominal surgery

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking IBSET TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking this medicine:

  • fluvoxamine (medicines used to manage depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of IBSET TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
