INTRODUCTION ABOUT FLEXON MR TABLET

FLEXON MR TABLET is a combination of Chlorzoxazone, Ibuprofen, and Paracetamol which belongs to the group of medicines called Muscle relaxants, Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and Analgesics, respectively. It is used to manage spondylitis (inflammatory arthritis affecting spine and large joints), lower back pain, frozen shoulder, and myalgia (muscle aches and pain) in affected individuals.

FLEXON MR TABLET is not recommended for use in patients allergic to paracetamol, ibuprofen, and/or chlorzoxazone. It is also not recommended for use in patients with a history of allergic reactions associated with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs/ acetylsalicylic acid. The medicine is not recommended for use in patients suffering from severe hepatocellular insufficiency/renal failure/heart failure, active/history of ulceration/ perforation/bleeding in the digestive tract, and/or defects in blood clotting.

Before taking FLEXON MR TABLET, inform your doctor if you had asthma, and/or have uncontrolled high blood pressure, kidney problems (such as severe renal insufficiency, renal impairment), heart problems (such as congestive heart failure, ischaemic heart disease), and liver problems (such as mild to moderate hepatocellular insufficiency, hepatic dysfunction), and

FLEXON MR TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women during third trimester stage. It should be used with caution in first and second trimester of pregnancy stage only if is clearly necessary. The medicine is advised to be used with caution in breastfeeding women only if necessary, since the medicine may pass through breast milk.

FLEXON MR TABLET is not recommended for use in children (aged below 12 years) and in adolescents weighing less than 40kg. The medicine is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

The most common side effects of taking FLEXON MR TABLET are heart burn, abdominal pain, nausea, indigestion, vomiting, flatulence, diarrhoea, and/or constipation. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.

HOW FLEXON MR TABLET WORKS

FLEXON MR TABLET helps in reducing pain, where chlorzoxazone relaxes muscles by acting on the certain areas of the brain which inhibits reflexes involved in producing and maintaining muscle spasms, ibuprofen reduces inflammation and provides relief from pain by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause inflammation and paracetamol provides relief from pain by working on receptors involved in production of chemical messengers that are responsible to cause pain in the body.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take FLEXON MR TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the tablet with the glass of water. Take the medicine with food. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF FLEXON MR TABLET

COMMON

  • heart burn
  • abdominal pain
  • nausea
  • indigestion
  • vomiting
  • flatulence
  • diarrhoea
  • constipation
  • mild bleeding in digestive tract that may cause anaemia

UNCOMMON

  • signs of allergic reactions such as skin rashes, itching, asthmatic attacks (breathlessness, chest tightness, and wheezing) with fall in blood pressure
  • headache
  • dizziness,
  • sleeplessness
  • agitation
  • irritation
  • tiredness
  • troubled vision
  • stomach ulcers with bleeding and perforations
  • ulcerative stomatitis (ulcers and inflammation in the mouth)
  • exacerbation of colitis (inflammation in the intestines) and Crohn's disease (inflammation of the digestive tract that can cause abdominal pain, fatigue, severe diarrhoea, and weight loss)
  • inflammation in stomach
  • skin rashes

RARE

  • signs of allergic reactions such as petechiae (purple, red, or brown spots under the skin), or ecchymoses (skin discoloration resulting from bleeding under the skin)
  • discoloration of the urine
  • signs of kidney-tissue damage (papillary necrosis) such as bloody, cloudy, or dark urine, back/flank pain, or tissue pieces in the urine
  • signs of elevated uric acid levels in the blood such as severe joint pain, joint stiffness, difficulty in moving affected joints, redness, and swelling
  • ringing in ears

Stop taking FLEXON MR TABLET and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:   

  • severe abdominal disorders such as heartburn or abdominal pain
  • blood in vomiting
  • blood in the urine
  • skin reactions such as itching eruptions  
  • difficulty in breathing and/or face or throat swelling
  • fatigue (weakness) with loss of appetite
  • sore throat with mouth ulcers, fatigue (weakness), and fever
  • severe nose bleeding and skin bleeding
  • fatigue (weakness) with reduced urine excretion
  • swelling or water retention in feet or legs
  • breast pain
  • abnormal vision
  • signs of liver toxicity such as fever, rash, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, right upper quadrant pain, dark urine, or jaundice
  • dark stools
  • signs of liver dysfunction such as skin & eyes that appear yellowish (jaundice), abdominal pain & swelling, swelling in the legs and ankles, and itchy skin
  • signs of hypersensitivity (immune response to antigen or allergen) such as urticaria (itchy welts), redness, itchy skin.
  • sings of Stevens-Johnson syndrome & Toxic epidermal necrolysis ( life-threatening cutaneous reactions) such as peeling pain, fever, body aches, painful, red area that spreads quickly. fever, discomfort.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache

Take rest and plenty of water. Avoid taking alcohol and skipping meals. Do not strain your eyes by watching screen for long time. Consult your doctor if the condition persists for long or gets worsened.

Dizziness

Lie down  until the dizziness passes and get up slowly. Do not bend down suddenly. Get a lot of rest. Walk slowly and carefully. Take plenty of fluids. Avoid drinking coffee, alcohol, or smoking. Consult your doctor if the condition persists for long or gets worsened.

Diarrhoea

Drink lots of fluids, such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to manage diarrhoea and consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

Constipation

Try to eat more high-fibre foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables, cereals, and drink plenty of water. Try doing exercise regularly (going for a daily walk or run). If this does not help, inform your doctor for receiving alternate managements for constipation.

Nausea and vomiting

Try to take FLEXON MR TABLET with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

Indigestion/Heartburn

Eat smaller and frequent meals. Chew the food properly before swallowing. Do not eat at least 3 to 4 hours before going for sleep in the night. Avoid taking tea, coffee, alcohol, or cola. Avoid smoking and taking rich, spicy, or fatty diet.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

FLEXON MR TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women during third trimester stage. It should be used with caution in first and second trimester of pregnancy stage only if is clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

BREASTFEEDING

FLEXON MR TABLET should be used with caution in breastfeeding mothers as this medicine may pass into milk in low concentrations. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate machines if you feel dizzy, and/or tired after taking FLEXON MR TABLET. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

ALCOHOL

Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking FLEXON MR TABLET since it may aggravate dizziness, tiredness, addiction and may increase risk of toxification (including fatal outcome).

KIDNEY

FLEXON MR TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe renal failure. It should be used with caution in patients with severe renal insufficiency or mild to moderate renal impairment. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

LIVER

FLEXON MR TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe hepatocellular insufficiency. It should be used with caution in patients with mild to moderate hepatocellular insufficiency/hepatic dysfunction. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

ALLERGY

FLEXON MR TABLET is not recommended for use if you are allergic to paracetamol, ibuprofen, chlorzoxazone, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine. It is also not recommended for use in patients with a history of allergic reactions (angioedema, asthma, bronchospasm, rhinitis or urticaria) associated with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs/ acetylsalicylic acid. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

LUNGS

FLEXON MR TABLET should be used with caution in patients with a history of asthma attacks. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

HEART DISEASE

FLEXON MR TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with heart disease such as severe heart failure. It should be used with caution in patients with a history of heart failure (such as fluid retention/swelling upon taking NSAID therapy). It is also advised to be used with caution in patients with congestive heart failure (inability of heart to pump sufficient blood), ischaemic heart disease (impaired blood flow to heart tissues), and/or carotid stenosis (condition that occurs due to blockade of carotid artery). Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

OTHERS

FLEXON MR TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

  • have a history of ulcer/ perforation/bleeding in the digestive tract.
  • have defects in blood clotting/coagulation.
  • suffer/have a history of recurrent/existing stomach ulcerations/haemorrhages.
  • suffer from stroke/other bleeding disorders.  
  • suffer from severe dehydration due to vomiting, diarrhoea, and/or insufficient fluid intake.

Before taking FLEXON MR TABLET, inform your doctor if you:    

  • have signs of glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase deficiency (genetic disorder that affects red blood cells) such as fever, dark urine, abdominal pain, back pain, weakness, and pale skin.
  • signs of Gilbert´s syndrome (genetic disorder that affects liver's ability to break down red blood cells) such as dark-colored urine, difficulty concentrating, and dizziness.
  • signs of low glutathione reserves such as anaemia, acid build-up in the body, frequent infections, and seizures
  • have mixed connective tissue disease such as systemic lupus erythematosus (autoimmune disease that attacks body's own tissues).
  • have congenital disorder of porphyrin metabolism (rare metabolic disorder causing partial deficiency of the enzyme porphobilinogen deaminase)
  • have disorders of digestive tract such as peptic ulcer, hiatus hernia or gastrointestinal bleeding
  • have chronic inflammatory intestinal disease such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease.
  • have recently undergone major surgery.
  • have hay fever (allergy to pollen grains)
  • have nasal polyps (abnormal growth in nose)
  • have Quincke’s oedema (a feeling of rapidly progressing blockage or presence of a foreign body in the throat)
  • have a history of high blood pressure.
  • are suffering from uncontrolled high blood pressure.

Use in Paediatrics

FLEXON MR TABLET is not recommended for use in children (aged below 12 years) and adolescents (weighing less than 40kg).  Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

Use in Geriatrics

FLEXON MR TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years). Consult your doctor before taking.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug Interactions

Before taking FLEXON MR TABLET, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • medicines used to manage epilepsy such as antiepileptics Ex. phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine, or topiramate
  • medicine used to manage tuberculosis Ex. rifampicin
  • medicines that are used to delay blood clotting such as antivitamin K (Ex. warfarin)
  • flucloxacillin (medicine used to manage infections)
  • medicines used to manage infections such as quinolone antibiotics (Ex. ciprofloxacin)
  • medicine used to manage pain and inflammation such as NSAIDs (Ex. dexamethasone) or salicylates (Ex. aspirin)
  • medicines used to reduce nausea and vomiting Ex. metoclopramide, domperidone
  • medicines used to remove harmful metals from the body such as chelating agents Ex. dimercaprol
  • medicines used to manage pain and inflammation such as corticosteroids Ex. dexamethasone, prednisolone
  • medicines used to manage depression such as lithium or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) Ex. fluoxetine, citalopram, or sertraline
  • medicines used to manage gout Ex. probenecid, sulfinpyrazone
  • medicines used to lower the blood pressure such as diuretics (Ex. spironolactone), ACE inhibitors (Ex. enalapril), beta-receptor-blockers (Ex. atenolol), and angiotensin-II antagonists (Ex. telmisartan)
  • medicines used to manage psoriasis Ex. methotrexate
  • medicines used to manage organ reject after transplant Ex. ciclosporin, tacrolimus
  • medicines used to manage AIDS or HIV Ex. zidovudine
  • medicines used to lower blood sugar levels such as sulphonylureas (Ex. gliclazide)
  • medicines used to manage digestive tract problems such as CYP2C9 inhibitors Ex. fluconazole
  • medicines used for abortions Ex. mifepristone
  • medicine used to manage heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms Ex. digoxin

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of FLEXON MR TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are nausea, vomiting, anorexia (an eating disorder), pallor, abdominal pain, hepatic cytolysis (liver disorder caused by drug overdose), digestive tract bleeding, acid build-up in the body, encephalopathy (disease that alters brain functions), disseminated intravascular coagulation (formation of blood clots in blood vessels), increased bleeding time, pancreatitis (inflammation of pancreas), acute renal failure, pancytopenia (shortness of breath, pale skin, or fatigue). Other symptoms include headache, dizziness, drowsiness, light-headedness, unconsciousness, low blood pressure, breathing problems, cyanosis (bluish discoloration of fingernails due to lack of oxygen), diarrhoea, weakness/sluggishness, loss of muscle tone making voluntary movements impossible, impaired tendon reflexes, and/or coma.
