INTRODUCTION ABOUT DEFCORT TM CAPSULE
DEFCORT TM CAPSULE is a combination of Deflazacort and Tamsulosin which belongs to the group of medicines called Corticosteroids and Alpha-blockers respectively. It is used in the management of kidney stone by facilitating easy urination. Kidney stones are abnormal hard deposits formed from minerals and salts inside the kidney due to some underlying medical condition or certain medications. It is characterized by severe sharp pain in the either side of the lower back, blood in urine, vague stomach-ache, fever, chills or cloudy urine.
Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking DEFCORT TM CAPSULE. Avoid taking this medicine, if you are allergic to Deflazacort or Tamsulosin or having severe liver infection, serious eye infection, duchenne muscular dystrophy, dizziness (while getting up) or micturition syncope (discomfort while urination). Before taking DEFCORT TM CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you have high blood pressure, osteoporosis (weak bones), kidney or heart diseases.
DEFCORT TM CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnant and breast-feeding women since it is used only in men. It is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Also, it is used with caution in elderly patients. The most common side effects of taking DEFCORT TM CAPSULE are dizziness, difficulties in ejaculation, increased appetite, frequent urination, nausea and stomach pain. Consult your doctor if any of the side effect gets worse.

HOW DEFCORT TM CAPSULE WORKS
DEFCORT TM CAPSULE helps in managing kidney stone and facilitates easy urination where Deflazacort blocks the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause inflammation and enhances the muscle strength as well as functioning and Tamsulosin binds selectively and competitively to certain receptors, causing muscle relaxation around the bladder exit and prostate gland, thereby allowing easy passage of urine.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take DEFCORT TM CAPSULE as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with the glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Take this medicine after breakfast or after the first daily meal. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF DEFCORT TM CAPSULE
COMMON
- dizziness (especially upon an abrupt change in the position)
- difficulties in ejaculation (little or no semen ejaculated at sexual climax)
- cloudy urine following sexual climax, frequent urination
- cushingoid appearance (extra fat build-up on the face)
- increased appetite
- cough
- weight gain
- central obesity
- upper respiratory tract infection such as inflammation in nose and throat or runny nose
- redness of skin, rash, bruise
- fever
- nausea
- back pain
- psychomotor hyperactivity, irritability
- nosebleed
- stretch marks
- abdominal discomfort/pain
UNCOMMON
- headache
- light-headedness or fainting (due to postural low blood pressure)
- swelling and irritation inside the nose
- constipation
- diarrhoea
- vomiting
- indigestion
- itching, red itchy skin
- weakness, thirst
- increased flow of tears in eyes
- infections such as hordeolum (infection in the eye lid), impetigo (red sores on face), influenza (common cold), otitis externa (an ear infection), pharyngitis (a throat infection), tooth abscess (pus formation beneath the tooth), urinary tract infection, viral infections
- irregular heart rate
- muscle spasms or pain, neck mass, neck pain, pain in extremity (legs and arms)
- mood disorders such as mood swings, aggression, depression, emotional disorder, sleeplessness, restlessness
- urinary disorders such as chromaturia (abnormal colouration of urine), painful urination, hypertonic bladder (disorder causing sudden urge to urinate)
- pain in testes
- shallow or slow breathing
- skin problems such as pimples, baldness
- dermatitis acneiform (condition marked by the formation of acne-like bumps on affected site)
- hot flush
RARE
- syncope (short-term loss of consciousness)
- signs of allergy reactions such as angioedema (rapid swelling beneath the skin) or anaphylaxis (fainting, shortness of breath and noisy breathing)
Stop taking DEFCORT TM CAPSULE and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
- serious skin rashes
- signs of stevens-johnson syndrome (a serious hypersensitivity reaction) such as purplish spots or patches on the skin, blisters, skin peeling, (high) fever, joint pain, and/or eye inflammation
- serious allergic reaction such as angioedema (swelling of the face or throat)
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Constipation
Try to eat more high-fibre foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables, cereals and drink plenty of water. Try doing exercise regularly (going for a daily walk or run). If this does not help, inform your doctor for receiving alternate managements for constipation.
Diarrhea
Drink lot of fluids such as water to keep yourself hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to manage diarrhoea and consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Dizziness Or Drowsiness
DEFCORT TM CAPSULE may cause dizziness which can be managed by lying down until the dizziness passes and get up slowly. Do not bend down suddenly. Get a lot of rest. Walk slowly and carefully. Take plenty of fluids. Avoid drinking alcohol or smoking. Consult your doctor if the symptom persists for long or gets worsened.
Nausea And Vomiting
Try to take DEFCORT TM CAPSULE with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

PREGNANCY
ContraindicatedDEFCORT TM CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnant women since it is used only in men.
BREASTFEEDING
ContraindicatedDEFCORT TM CAPSULE is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women since it is used only in men.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Use with CautionDEFCORT TM CAPSULE should be used with caution while driving or operating machines since it might cause dizziness. Consult your doctor before taking DEFCORT TM CAPSULE.
ALCOHOL
Consult your doctorAvoid consumption of alcohol while taking DEFCORT TM CAPSULE since it may alter the effect of this medicine.
KIDNEY
Use with CautionDEFCORT TM CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with severe renal impairment. Consult your doctor for advice before taking DEFCORT TM CAPSULE.
LIVER
ContraindicatedDEFCORT TM CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver infection. Consult your doctor before taking DEFCORT TM CAPSULE.
ALLERGY
ContraindicatedDEFCORT TM CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you are allergic to Deflazacort, Tamsulosin or any other ingredients of this medicine.
HEART DISEASE
Use with CautionDEFCORT TM CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with heart disease such as congestive heart disease (inability of heart to pump sufficient blood), recent myocardial infarction (blockage of blood flow to heart). Consult your doctor before taking DEFCORT TM CAPSULE.
USE IN PEDIATRICS
ContraindicatedDEFCORT TM CAPSULE is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Consult your child’s doctor for advice.
USE IN GERIATRICS
Use with CautionDEFCORT TM CAPSULE should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years). Consult your doctor before taking DEFCORT TM CAPSULE.
OTHERS
DEFCORT TM CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you:
- have history of angioedema (swelling due to allergic reaction) after using of certain drugs
- feel dizziness when you sit up or stand up from the lying position
- suffer from micturition syncope (malaise or discomfort during or after urinating)
Before taking DEFCORT TM CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you:
- have high blood pressure
- have osteoporosis (condition marked by weak bones)
- are planning for vaccination
- have neuromuscular transmission disorders such as myasthenia gravis
- have thromboembolic disorders such as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism
- are scheduled to undergo cataract or glaucoma (eye disorder) surgery
- have certain gastro-intestinal (abdominal) disorders such as active or latent peptic ulcers, diverticulitis (small, bulging pouches in digestive tract), fresh intestinal anastomoses (surgical procedure to connect two distant portions of intestine) and non-specific ulcerative colitis (inflammatory bowel disease)
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before taking DEFCORT TM CAPSULE, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- erythromycin, clarithromycin, rifampin (used to manage bacterial infections)
- ketoconazole, fluconazole (used to manage fungal infections)
- diltiazem, verapamil (used to manage blood pressure)
- efavirenz (used to manage human immunodeficiency virus infection)
- carbamazepine, phenytoin (used to manage epilepsy)
- neuromuscular blocking agents (medicines used to relax muscles) Ex. pancuronium
- over-the-counter medicines (Ex. dietary supplements and herbal products)
- insulin (used to manage diabetes)
- anticoagulants (Ex. warfarin)
- alpha-1 adrenergic receptor (Ex. alfuzosin, doxazosin)
- non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Ex. diclofenac, aspirin)
B. Drug-Food Interactions:
Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking this medicine. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of DEFCORT TM CAPSULE, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Overdosage of DEFCORT TM CAPSULE is low blood pressure.
