INTRODUCTION ABOUT BUSPIN 5MG TABLET
BUSPIN 5MG TABLET contains Buspirone which belongs to a group of medicines called Anxiolytics. It is used in the short-term management of anxiety disorders and relief in the symptoms of anxiety.
Anxiety is defined as excessive worry and fear about everyday situations. Symptoms include feeling restless, fatigue, worrisome, difficulty concentrating, being irritable, aches in the head, muscles or stomach, difficulty falling or staying asleep.
Along with this management, your doctor might ask you to make certain lifestyle changes such as eating a healthy diet, healthy sleep habits, regular breathing exercise, quitting alcohol and caffeine intake.
Before taking BUSPIN 5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have depression, impaired liver or kidney function, acute narrow-angle glaucoma (increase in eyes pressure), myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness, difficulty to chew or speak) and drug dependence.
BUSPIN 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. BUSPIN 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children or adolescents (below 18 years).
It should be used with caution among elderly patients (above 65 years). Avoid consumption of grapefruit juice while taking BUSPIN 5MG TABLET, as it may lead to unwanted side effects.
The most common side effects of taking BUSPIN 5MG TABLET are dizziness, headache, sleeping problems, nervousness, racing heart, mental and physical tiredness. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsen.

HOW BUSPIN 5MG TABLET WORKS
BUSPIN 5MG TABLET works by modulating the action of serotonin, a chemical messenger of the brain that affects thoughts and mood.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take BUSPIN 5MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF BUSPIN 5MG TABLET
COMMON
- dizziness
- headache
- nervousness
- disturbance in attention, depression, confused state, sleeping problems, anger, excitement
- neurological (pins and needles, tingling, abnormal coordination, tremor)
- blurred vision, ringing or buzzing in the ears, blocked nose, sore throat
- racing heart (abnormally fast heartbeats)
- chest pain
- gastrointestinal (stomach pain, diarrhoea, constipation, rash, feeling and being sick, dry mouth, cold sweats)
- painful muscles, tendons, ligaments and bone
- mental and physical tiredness
RARE
- bruising, itchy skin rash due to allergic reaction (pale or red irregular raised patches accompanied by severe itching)
Stop taking BUSPIN 5MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- feeling confused, restless, sweating, shaking, shivering, sudden jerks of the muscles or a fast heartbeat
- severe allergic reaction (itching, difficulty breathing or swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue)
- psychosis and hallucinations (strange vision or sounds)
- seizures
- restricted vision
- fainting or passing out
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Constipation:
Eat plenty of fibre-rich foods such as vegetables, and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.
Diarrhoea:
Drink lots of water to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor.
Stomach pain:
Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or have smaller and more frequent meals. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.
Headache:
Get adequate sleep and drink lots of water. Take deep breaths and exercise regularly. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
BUSPIN 5MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women as it is not known if it affects the growth of the unborn baby. Consult your doctor before taking it.
BREASTFEEDING
BUSPIN 5MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it is not known if it affects the growth of breast-fed babies. Consult your doctor before taking it.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or use any heavy machines while taking BUSPIN 5MG TABLET as it may make you feel drowsy or dizzy.
ALCOHOL
Do not drink alcohol while taking BUSPIN 5MG TABLET. Consult your doctor for advice.
KIDNEY
BUSPIN 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney impairment. It should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease, dose will be adjusted if needed. Consult your doctor before taking it.
LIVER
BUSPIN 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver impairment. It should be used with caution in patients with liver disease, dose will be adjusted if needed. Consult your doctor before taking it.
ALLERGY
Do not take BUSPIN 5MG TABLET if you are allergic to Buspirone or any other ingredients of this medicine.
OTHERS
BUSPIN 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- have epilepsy
Before taking BUSPIN 5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- have an intolerance to certain sugars
- have acute narrow-angle glaucoma
- have myasthenia gravis
- have depression
- have or had drug dependence
Use in pediatrics:
BUSPIN 5MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children or adolescents under the age of 18. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Use in geriatrics:
Your doctor will give the right dose depending on your age, body weight and disease condition. Consult your doctor before taking BUSPIN 5MG TABLET.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug - Drug interactions:
Before taking BUSPIN 5MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- monoamine-oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) (Ex. phenelzine, tranylcypromine, St. John’s wort, nefazodone, L-tryptophan, fluvoxamine, trazodone)
- selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (Ex. fluoxetine, paroxetine)
- serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (Ex. duloxetine, venlafaxine)
- tricyclic antidepressants (Ex. amitriptyline, clomipramine)
- haloperidol, lithium (for mental illness)
- calcium channel blockers such as diltiazem, verapamil (to manage high blood pressure)
- rifampicin (to manage tuberculosis)
- sumatriptan (to manage migraine)
- tramadol (a painkiller)
- baclofen (a muscle relaxant)
- lofexidine (to manage drug withdrawal)
- nabilone (used to manage nausea and vomiting)
- antihistamines (to manage allergic reactions)
- erythromycin, itraconazole, linezolid (to manage infections)
- benzodiazepines (Ex. nitrazepam or temazepam)
- digoxin (to manage heart failure)
- phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine (to manage epilepsy)
- cimetidine (to manage stomach ulcers)
- diazepam (to manage anxiety)
- warfarin (to manage blood clots)
B. Drug - Food interaction:
Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking BUSPIN 5MG TABLET as it may increase the risk of side effects. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of BUSPIN 5MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are feeling or being sick, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, ringing or buzzing in the ears, restlessness, restriction of the pupils, stomach problems, slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, fits and difficulty in speaking, swallowing or walking, loss of balance control, mask-like face, stiffness of arms and legs, trembling or shaking of hands or fingers.
