INTRODUCTION
BENZ PEARLS contains Benzonatate which belongs to the group of medicines called Antitussive agents. It is used in the affected individuals to provide symptomatic relief from cough.
BENZ PEARLS is not recommended for use if you are allergic to benzonatate, or other related compounds. Before taking BENZ PEARLS, inform your doctor if you have liver disease such as chronic hepatitis C. It should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women. It is not recommended for use in children (below 10 years of age) and it should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). Consult your doctor before taking BENZ PEARLS.
The most common side effects associated with the use of BENZ PEARLS are nausea, oral hypoesthesia (loss of sensation in mouth), numbness, dizziness, headache, sedation and excess sleepiness. Consult your doctor if any of the symptom worsens.

- To provide symptomatic relief of cough
HOW BENZ PEARLS WORKS
BENZ PEARLS works by reducing the activity of certain receptors or nerve fibers located in the respiratory passage, lungs and membrane (covering the lungs) that sends impulses to the cough center located in the brain resulting in inhibition of mechanism involved in the stimulation of airway muscles to initiate cough thus providing symptomatic relief from cough in affected individuals.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take BENZ PEARLS as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age and severity of the condition.
SIDE EFFECTS OF BENZ PEARLS
COMMON
- nausea

- throat symptoms such as pain/scratchy sensation in throat, difficulty swallowing, swollen tonsils

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea:
Try to take BENZ PEARLS with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Dizziness:
Lie down until the dizziness passes and get up slowly. Do not bend down suddenly. Get a lot of rest. Walk slowly and carefully. Take plenty of fluids. Avoid drinking coffee, alcohol, or smoking. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Headache:
Take rest and drink plenty of water. Avoid taking alcohol and skipping meals. Do not strain your eyes by watching screen for long time. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
BENZ PEARLS should be used with caution in pregnant women only if clearly needed. Consult your doctor before taking it.
BREASTFEEDING
BENZ PEARLS should be used with caution in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.
LIVER
BENZ PEARLS should be used with caution in patients with liver diseases such as chronic hepatitis C. Consult your doctor before taking BENZ PEARLS.
ALLERGY
BENZ PEARLS is not recommended for use if you are allergic to benzonatate or related compounds or any other ingredients of this medicine.
OTHERS
Use in Paediatrics:
BENZ PEARLS is not recommended for use in children (below 10 years of age). Consult child’s doctor for advice.
Use in Geriatrics:
BENZ PEARLS should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). Consult your doctor before taking BENZ PEARLS.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before taking BENZ PEARLS, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- para-amino-benzoic acid (medicines used for topical numbing) Ex. procaine, tetracaine
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of BENZ PEARLS, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are restlessness, tremors, convulsions, depression, coma, cerebral edema (swelling of brain) and cardiac arrest.
