INTRODUCTION ABOUT ATEN 25MG TABLET

ATEN 25MG TABLET contains Atenolol, which belongs to the group of medicines called Beta-blockers. It is used to manage high blood pressure and arrhythmias (uneven heart beats). It can also be used to manage angina (chest pain) and protect the heart in the initial management after a heart attack.

Hypertension is defined as persistently increased blood pressure that can show symptoms like headache, sweating, fast heartbeat or throbbing sensation. Arrhythmia is defined as a loss of heart rhythm, especially irregularity of heartbeat, characterized by dizziness, fainting, chest pain or choking sensation. Angina can be defined as a pain syndrome due to the induction of a harmful oxygen supply/demand situation in a part of the heart muscle.

Before taking ATEN 25MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have any kidney or heart disease, any breathing problems, an overactive thyroid gland, or diabetes. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or a breastfeeding mother, or planning to have a baby before taking ATEN 25MG TABLET.

ATEN 25MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children. ATEN 25MG TABLET is recommended for use with caution in the elderly with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking ATEN 25MG TABLET. The most common side effects of taking ATEN 25MG TABLET are slower pulse rate, cold feet and hands, nausea, diarrhea and tiredness.

HOW ATEN 25MG TABLET WORKS

ATEN 25MG TABLET works by blocking chemical mediators which lowers the heart rate, blood pressure, and strain on the heart. 

 

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take ATEN 25MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Continue to take ATEN 25MG TABLET for the stipulated duration prescribed by your doctor to achieve better results.

COMMON

RARE

  • heart block (having symptoms like dizziness, irregular heartbeat or fainting)
  • Raynaud’s disease (numbness and cramps in fingers, confusion, personality changes, hallucinations, headache, tingling in hands)
  • mood changes
  • nightmares
  • difficulty getting an erection
  • dry mouth
  • dry eyes, vision problems
  • hair thinning
  • skin rash, purple marks on your skin
  • yellowing of skin or eyes
  • worsening of conditions like psoriasis (a skin condition), heart failure (breathlessness, swollen ankles), asthma, or poor circulation

Stop taking ATEN 25MG TABLET and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • allergic reaction (such as raised lumps on your skin, or swelling of your face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat)
 
 

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Dizziness:

Take rest by lying down until you feel better. Move slowly and carefully. Consult your doctor if your symptom gets worse or persist.

Nausea:

Take ATEN 25MG TABLET with, or immediately followed by meals. Have light meals and eat them slowly and frequently. Avoid oily and sweet foods. Consult your doctor if your symptom gets worse or persist.

Diarrhoea:

Drink sufficient amount of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor. Consult your doctor if your symptom gets worse or persist.

Stomach pain:

Try to rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to consume smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor immediately.

PREGNANCY

Before taking ATEN 25MG TABLET, consult your doctor if you are pregnant or are planning to have a baby.

BREASTFEEDING

Before taking ATEN 25MG TABLET, consult your doctor if you are breast-feeding.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

ATEN 25MG TABLET may make you feel tired or dizzy. In such case, do not drive or use any tools or machines.

KIDNEY

ATEN 25MG TABLET is to be used cautiously in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking it.

ALLERGY

Do not take ATEN 25MG TABLET if you are allergic to Atenolol.

LUNGS

Before taking ATEN 25MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have asthma, wheezing or any other similar breathing problems.

HEART DISEASE

ATEN 25MG TABLET is to be used with caution in patients with heart problems like uncontrolled heart failure, second- or third-degree heart block, chest pain, very slow or uneven heartbeats, very low blood pressure or very poor circulation. Consult your doctor before taking ATEN 25MG TABLET.

OTHERS

ATEN 25MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

  • have an unmanageed tumour called phaeochromocytoma (usually near your kidney and can cause high blood pressure)
  • have metabolic acidosis (more acidic blood than normal)

Before taking ATEN 25MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

  • have diabetes (low blood sugar levels)
  • have thyrotoxicosis (an overactive thyroid gland)
  • are about to have any surgery

Use in pediatrics:

ATEN 25MG TABLET is not recommended for use by children. Consult your doctor for advice.

Use in geriatrics:

ATEN 25MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking ATEN 25MG TABLET.

 
 

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking ATEN 25MG TABLET inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • medicines used to manage heart conditions (like high blood pressure, chest pain, uneven heartbeat or to stimulate the heart) Ex. verapamil, diltiazem, nifedipine, disopyramide, amiodarone, digoxin, adrenaline
  • clonidine (used to manage high blood pressure and to control symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD))
  • medicines used to manage pain and inflammation (Ex. Ibuprofen, indomethacin)
  • medicines used to manage diabetes (high blood sugar) Ex. insulin or oral medicines like metformin, dapagliflozin
  • medicines used to manage nose or sinus congestion or other cold remedies (Ex.  naphazoline, phenylephrine)

Overdose:

If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of ATEN 25MG TABLET, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
